The Florence-Lauderdale Public Library announces the Shoals Reader Riot Book Festival (Reader Riot) to be held April 28 & 29, 2017.

The Reader Riot is collaboration between the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library and community volunteers. Its mission is to bring together readers from across the Shoals to celebrate the written word and to promote reading, writing, and book-centered conversations in a riotous atmosphere.

A goal of the Reader Riot is to celebrate books and creative writing in the same way music and visual arts are currently celebrated across the Shoals. The festival will feature best-selling and regional authors as well as performers, workshops, panel discussions, and social events.

The Friday night kickoff event will feature nationally-recognized spoken word artists from Louisville and New York City.

The Shoals Reader Riot is an annual book festival organized by the Florence-Lauderdale Public Library and community volunteers. The first annual festival is scheduled for April 28 & 29, 2017 in downtown Florence.
