The first time I heard "When I Die Young", I fell in love with The Band Perry.
Kimberly's voice was husky but sweet, the song was sad but hopeful and I listened on repeat for ages.
"You Lie" and "Better Dig Two" followed that one up and really established them in my heart.
In Spring of 2016, however, they split with Big Machine Records and set off in a different direction.
As they explored their identity as people and as artists, things began to change. They went from springy and light to bright and poppy to much darker and more artistic.
They've finally landed with their first full 'pop' album and this is what they had to say:
"To our fans -
We've made an album for you. Creating it has been the most exciting thing we've ever done. It's led us to disrupt everything that was comfortable and familiar to us a short year ago. If there's one thing we've learned in making it it's this - being yourself matters. It matters even when not everyone agrees that you should be or understands why it's important that you are. The album is called My Bad Imagination. It's our very first pop album and tonight the first track will be out everywhere, its called Stay In The Dark.
Listen loud. Thank you for your love, your patience, and for your trust.
Come with us.
The lyric video for the first track "Stay In The Dark" has accompanied it and ....I don't see the Perrys anywhere! I hear their fun harmonies, Kimberly's distinctive voice and I actually like it but the video is ummm... it's actually a little unsettling.
I'll be looking forward to seeing the follow up video featuring the band and I'll probably always be a fan, no matter what. I think they're kind-hearted and talented individuals.
So, now that they've gone pop, what do you think?
