The Last Songwriter is a documentary about the disappearing middle class of songwriters and how that could change the music industry for the future.
The film, which premieres on April 27th at the Nashville Film Festival, also points out that songwriters, unless they're writing big hits, aren't making much money thanks to streaming. See, the laws that were put in place so songwriters could make a living, were created before the digital age and didn't take streaming into consideration. So there aren't many songwriters making much money. Therefore, they stop pursuing it as a career or they have to take other jobs as a source of income so they can't focus on their craft.
