Madison County Hospitals under flu alert!

All Madison County hospitals are taking steps to limit the spread of the flu. These precautions are in effect at Huntsville Hospital, Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children, Madison Hospital and Crestwood Medical Center.

Due to the increasing incidence of flu and in the best interests of hospital patients, families and staff all Madison County Hospitals ask that you not visit patients in the hospital if you are experiencing any of these flu-like symptoms:

  • Fever
  • Runny nose 
  • Coughing
  • Sore throat
  • Body aches
  • Headaches
  • Chills
  • Fatigue

Individuals who are at high risk for developing the flu are also strongly encouraged not to enter the hospital except to receive medical care. This group includes:

  • Pregnant women
  • Anyone with a chronic medical condition
  • People over 65
  • Anyone under 12

According to the Alabama Department of Public Health, significant influenza activity has been reported in 55 of the state’s 67 counties, including Madison, Morgan, Limestone, Jackson andMarshall Counties. By following the precautions above, area hospitals hope to limit the spread ofthe flu.

All residents are encouraged to continue to practice good hand hygiene and other flu prevention habits, such as sneezing and coughing into your sleeve. Ask for a mask when visiting the hospitals and staff will be glad to provide one for you. Remember also, it is not too late to get the flu vaccine.Thank you for your understanding and assistance in helping protect our community from the flu.
