Here’s a helpful hint: Don’t hug a chicken. That’s right – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warns that hugging, kissing or any kind of handling of chickens and other birds could lead to salmonella infections. The CDC has linked recent multi-state outbreaks of salmonella to people cuddling live poultry, such as chicks and ducklings, that live in backyards. Of 228 people infected with salmonella, 190 said they had handled live poultry about a week before they experienced symptoms. (Time)
