Pet Tip of the Week

Understanding your puppy!! Dogs are group-living animals that expect, and are respectful of, a leader in their social group. It is important that you assume the leadership role for your puppy by establishing clear rules and expectations for behavior. You should be firm and gentle, not punitive, when you train your new puppy. The need to be consistent is necessary. Have all of your family make the puppy follow the same rules. If your puppy is excitable, have him/her earn attention and other things by being calm and quiet. Follow through with all of your commands and only give the command one time. Never hit or strike your puppy for disobeying and always reward your puppy for good behavior with plenty of praise, patting or with a small kibble of puppy food.
