Catherine Parrill to Speak Before Fundraiser and Innovation Competition

Local nonprofit New Leaf Digital is partnering with Creative Exchanges Initiative, a Birmingham-based nonprofit, to host a fundraiser and innovation competition that will provide technical solutions to the challenges Creative Exchanges Initiative faces in providing sustainable aid solutions to Haiti. The nonprofits invite North Alabama community members to the Causathon event on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Real Estate Row at 1806 University Drive, Huntsville, Alabama. Food and drinks will be served. The event kicks off with a presentation from Creative Exchanges Initiative CEO Catherine Parrill, who has worked towards Haitian relief efforts for over 25 years. Parrill reached out to New Leaf to help raise awareness and ultimately to utilize Huntsville’s great engineering talent to develop an app to be used for healthy systemic change and sustainable development throughout Haiti. The call for participants is now open to both technical and nontechnical students and professionals. Community members not interested in participating in the competition are urged to attend to learn more about the work Creative Exchanges Initiative implements. Funds raised for the event will directly support app development creation and implementation, which will stem from the innovation competition that begins at 6:30 p.m. with cash prizes for winners.“Relationships come first. We work on grassroots capacity building in a community to reach a tipping point of transformation quickly. So in everything we do, from goats to media, agriculture to art, we work to democratize power and create civic infrastructure,” said Parrill.“We are excited for Huntsville talent to make our dream a reality in bringing this vision to life"
