Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy has sued his ex-fiancée Tia Jones after she claimed he choked her during an alleged incident at their Texas home earlier this month, TMZ Sports reports.
Worthy, 21, filed the lawsuit in a Texas court Monday (March 24) morning, less than three weeks after he was arrested on a criminal charge of assault against a family or household member by impeding their breathing or circulation on March 7. Worthy's attorneys, Chip Lewis and Sam Bassett, claimed he asked the complainant "multiple times over the last two weeks" to vacate his residence "upon discovery of her infidelity" in a statement shared hours after his arrest on March 8.
"She has refused to vacate the residence and made a number of extortive efforts prior to resorting to this baseless allegation against Mr. Worthy," the statement reads. "The complaint further destroyed a room in the residence, scratched Mr. Worthy's face and ripped out parts of his hair, which there is photographic evidence of. Mr. Worthy told law enforcement at the time of the incident he did not want to press charges against the complainant.
"We will continue to cooperate with Williamson County authorities as we have full faith their thorough investigation will support Mr. Worthy's innocence."
The Chiefs confirmed they were "aware and gathering information" about Worthy's arrest on a statement obtained by NFL Network's Tom Pelissero following news of his arrest. Worthy was selected by the Chiefs at No. 28 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The former University of Texas standout led Kansas City with six receiving touchdowns and was second in receptions (638) and receiving yards (638). The Chiefs had four players arrested last season, which included Rashee Rice, another wide receiver coming off a breakout rookie season in 2023. Rice was arrested for his role in a high-speed crash that resulted in five vehicles being damaged and an assault charge that was later dropped.
