Miley Cyrus Reveals How She Feels About Billy Ray Cyrus' New Relationship

Miley Cyrus said she’s “being an adult about it” when asked about her dad’s new relationship.

“Achy Breaky Heart” star Billy Ray Cyrus, 63, confirmed his new romance with actress Elizabeth Hurley, 59, after the pair sparked dating rumors with a flirty photo together on Easter. Billy Ray and Hurley recently made their red carpet debut together in Rome, Italy.

Miley, 32, publicly shared her thoughts on the new relationship for the first time in an interview with The New York Times that published over the weekend, on the heels of her latest album release. The Something Beautiful star said she’s “being an adult about it,” as her dad dates someone new. Billy Ray was married to Miley’s mother, Tish Cyrus, 58, for nearly three decades. They divorced in 2022, and Tish has since remarried actor Dominic Purcell, 55 (she previously said she “never wanted to be divorced,” but she “didn’t have a choice”).

“I think timing is everything. As I’ve gotten older, I’m respecting my parents as individuals instead of as parents,” Cyrus told The New York Times, acknowledging that although Tish “really loved” Billy Ray, it’s “obviously really hard” staying married to someone in the music industry. Miley said she “owned a lot of her [Tish's] pain” after the split, “but now that my mom is so in love with my stepdad, who I completely adore, and now that my dad, I see him finding happiness, too — I can love them both as individuals instead of as a parental pairing. I’m being an adult about it.” She also clarified that she's not estranged from her father.

Billy Ray and Tish also share Brandi Cyrus, 37, and Trace Cyrus, 35 — both of whom the country star adopted when he married their mother — Braison Cyrus, 30, and Noah Cyrus, 25. Billy Ray, who married and divorced Australian singer-songwriter FIREROSE, 37, before dating Hurley, is also a father to son Christopher Cody Cyrus, 32, from a previous relationship. Hurley was previously married to Arun Nayar, 60, from 2007 to 2011. Hurley has one son, Damien Hurley, 23, whom she welcomed with late businessman and film producer Steve Bing.
